Old BF42-DC Mod Vehicles by Nordenx Old BF42-DC Mod Vehicles by Nordenx
Some of my past work...

I used to be a part of a 3rd party mapping team called DC Maps who created maps/levels and vehicles as well (I modeled, textured, and coded them into our custom maps itself) for the game Desert Combat (a Mod of Battlefield 1942) a multiplayer First Person Shooter (FPS) game.

This is a compilation of several in-game screenshots of the vehicles (and maps) that I created. These vehicles are driveable in-game and the mounted weapons are functional.

Top: (furthest to closest) a white United Nations (UN) sports utility vehicle (SUV), a desert patrol vehicle (DPV) w/spare tires and passenger-side machine gun, a fast attack vehicle (FAV) with a passenger-side mounted automatic grenade launcher and a rear passenger (roof mounted) machine gun, a fast attack vehicle (FAV) with a passenger-side mounted mini-gun and a roof mounted machine gun. (Map: DCM Quarry)

Middle: (left to right) a gigantic dump truck - the biggest land vehicle ever in Battlefield 1942 (BF42) and its mods, a dirt bike, a technical pickup truck w/ roof mounted (forward facing) machine gun and a dirt bike that spawns in the bed (which can be driven away). (Map: DCM Quarry)

Bottom: from a map (Twin Rivers) made by another Pinoy in my team (screen name: Gasaraki, aka. Gas) - the map is set in Mindanao. The wooden docks were created by yours truly, and it spawns my motorized banca (outrigger tri-maran) w/ front mounted machinegun (1 gunner, 1 driver, 4 seated passengers).

Bottom right inset: the icon for the gigantic dump truck.

LOL! Yeah, we had fun with those boats! It was hard to code them because of the "floaters" and "wings" properties in BF42 water vehicles. It ended up being much more fun to drive than the Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIB) that come with Desert Combat (we had them spawn on the other team's base).

The usual Photoshop for textures and 3DSMax for Models are easy of course. The hard part is the scripting/programming, using the conversion & editing apps & tools that are custom built for the game engine as well as formatting, compiling, and other game related issues like creating separate shadow models, low poly models, HUD, icons, mapping, positioning objects, spawns, flag points, etc., etc. - that takes some time and some learning curve to do.

In a team, different jobs are assigned to different people. I'm the only crazy one who does all of them (and still help out my other team members with their projects). As a mapper - I Model, Texture, and Code - I could've chose just one role, but I'm a glutton for punishment. LOL!

hey... same thing happened to me. My hard drive burned out and lost most of my files. Also, when the small IT business that I own and co-founded folded (partners didn't get along) I got kinda depressed and stayed away from computers for a few months. Gas and I were testers for Desert Combat (Trauma Studios), when I came back I learned that they sold the rights for DC to Dice and I missed out on the chance to get on board (they offered the team and some testers jobs at Dice/EA). That's when I totally lost interest in DC and modding BF42.

My vehicles are map-specific. They were only available in our maps at DCMaps. I think Gas still heads a mapping team for BF2 now: [link]

Some of these old maps are still available for download in some places like these:
